Drastic measures.
“As many of us know, with few exceptions since 1960, no matter who was playing quarterback for the Broncos, fans have always wanted the other guy! Tim Tebow is just another part of the mess former coach Josh McDaniels left for us. If the Broncos want to build through the draft, why don’t they try to deal Tebow for draft choices? We both know the answer: Denver wouldn’t have any takers.”
Terry, Lakewood
Kiz: Trade Tebow? If you thought fans never forgave McDaniels for dumping running back Peyton Hillis, I pity the fools who believe John Fox could survive giving up on Tebow before Tim Terrific gets a fair shot. Fox sits in a tough spot. Starting Kyle Orton might earn brownie points with his veterans in the Denver locker room, but should the Broncos start the season 1-4 with Orton at the helm, Tebow supporters will want to run Fox out of town faster than you can say Kid McD.
Throw in the towel.
“I know the Broncos can’t tank the NFL season to secure the No. 1 pick in the 2012 draft. The fact this idea is gaining support among fans and media, however, illustrates how far this once-successful franchise has fallen. One playoff win in 12 seasons should serve as proof that second- and third- tier quarterbacks such as Brian Griese, Jake Plummer and Orton are not the answer. As a lifetime Broncos fan, I hope their talent level is poor enough to secure the first overall pick in 2012 and we have Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck as the face of the franchise.”
Brian, just lose, baby
Kiz: Honesty has always been valued over tact here at Kickin’ It Headquarters. So with all due respect, please know that anybody who advocates the Broncos stinking for Luck must have peanut butter for brains. You wouldn’t advise your 7-year-old child to go out and lose every recreational soccer game on purpose, much less try telling John Elway to flush an entire season.
Where does he fit in?
“Knowshon Moreno should not have been taken in the first round of the NFL draft. He was not physically, mentally or emotionally ready and should have stayed at Georgia for another year of college. Moreno was not first-round material, so I get upset when fans and writers label him a bust. I hope Fox and his assistants can tailor some effective schemes for Moreno’s developing skills.”
Jeff, Denver
Kiz: Fox was a coach born to run. If his expertise can somehow pay off with Willis McGahee and Moreno combining to gain in excess of 1,800 yards on the ground, the Broncos will have a fighting chance to be a .500 team, no matter who plays QB.
Lay off the new kid.
“I know negative and sensational reporting sells newspapers and keeps you know-it-all media types employed. But how about a little objectivity for a change? Tebow has started how many NFL games? Three? That’s definitely not enough time for any football expert, let alone a columnist, to judge his talent or his probability of success. I’m not quite sure what y’all are seeing that allows you to blast Tebow before he has been given a chance. Is it the fact that he’s a Christian?”
Keith, Northglenn
Kiz: Here’s a theory. Tebow and his most ardent supporters might have a common flaw. They are wound a bit too tightly. When Orton wasn’t traded and Tebow began slipping down the depth chart during the first week of training camp, everybody saw Tebow press. An elite NFL quarterback must endure tense situations with more poise.
Sounds like a broken record.
“Hmm, let’s see how many times we’ve heard this. As the trade deadline approaches, the Rockies chorus is: ‘We’re not going to make any blockbuster acquisitions, because we get the core of our players from within our system.’ So Ubaldo Jimenez has a bad first half of the season and general manager Dan O’Dowd says dump him? I didn’t get it until now. System patience is applied to the acquisition part of a blockbuster trade, but not the dumping part.”
John, Highlands Ranch
Kiz: In 12 full seasons with O’Dowd running the show, the Rockies have made the playoffs twice. Maybe we missed the memo naming him GM for life.
