Boulder police arrested a 31-year-old homeless man Sunday night after a witness said he hit a man on the head with a 2-foot-long wooden club after the man refused to give him money .
Boulder police spokeswoman Kim Kobel said police were called to the area of the Boulder Theater, 2032 14th St., around 9:30 p.m. Sunday on a report of an assault in progress.
According to a police report on the incident, witnesses and the victim told police that the homeless man, later identified as Timothy Noel English, had asked the victim for change, Kobel said.
At one point, English removed a wooden club from a guitar case he was carrying and struck the victim on the back of the head, according to witness reports, Kobel said. Witnesses said English raised his hand as if to strike the victim again, but several other people restrained him.
