GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—Garfield County commissioners have given the county public works director permission to spend an estimated $2 million to fix three roads closed by mud and rock slides after recent rains—and to do it in an “expedited manner.”

The Post Independent reports ( ) that typically the county would advertise for requests for proposals from contractors for the repairs, but that step will be skipped. County Attorney Andrew Gorgey told commissioners state law does allow for such shortcuts in the case of emergencies.

Commissioners agreed Monday to award a $459,548 contract to fix County Road 320 to Con-Sy Inc. of Rifle, which was the low bidder among three firms. Frontier Paving and Aspen Earth Moving were the other bidders. Commissioners didn’t decide on the other roads.
