It’s not uncommon to go to a game and witness Rockies first baseman Todd Helton make history. He’s chasing 2,500 career hits and is moving toward the top 20 on baseball’s all-time doubles list. Tuesday night he did something for the first time, striking out four times in a game in four consecutive at-bats. He had struck four times once before on Sept. 1, 2002, but had a walk in that game. “I just wasn’t picking up the ball at all,” Helton said.

Staying hot.

Dexter Fowler has reached base safely in 23 of 25 games since being recalled from the minors. The outfielder is hitting .333 (32-for-96) during that time.

Close doesn’t count.

The Reds’ disappointing season can be tied to one stat: They are 17-27 in one-run games.
