CLEVELAND — Grady Sizemore’s return remains in limbo.
The Indians won’t have the injured center fielder back until at least September, and there are no guarantees he’ll be in their lineup again this season.
Manager Manny Acta said Tuesday that Sizemore, sidelined since July 18 with a bruised right knee and after undergoing surgery for a sports hernia, will definitely not be back this month.
The Indians are hoping to get outfielder Shin-Soo Choo back for the playoff chase. He has been on the disabled list since June 25 with a broken left thumb. Choo began a rehab assignment Monday at Single-A Lake County.
Rodriguez could return next week
TAMPA, Fla. — Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez was upbeat after running the bases for the first time in his recovery from knee surgery and could soon be back in the lineup.
“I think next week is realistic,” manager Joe Girardi said.
Rodriguez, who had surgery on his right knee July 14, ran from first to second and first to third four times each during his latest workout. Base running is usually the final step before an injured position player starts in minor- league games.
“It’s all good stuff,” Rodriguez said.
