The University of Colorado Board of Regents today unanimously approved a five-year contract extension for CU athletic director Mike Bohn.

Bohn’s $297,000 base salary will remain the same with another $100,000 that can be earned in incentives. An additional incentive structure totaling $54,000 was added to the new contract, based on revenue generation through tickets and donations.

“We want to make sure we supported Mike in the extension,” said Dr. Phillip DiStefano, chancellor of the Boulder campus.

The two have worked closely on CU’s transition to the Pac-12.

While Bohn’s hands-on role was a factor in earning the added job security, DiStefano said, “He made those tough decisions about coaches in the past year, year and a half … and get the ship moving in the right direction.”

Bohn fired head football coach Dan Hawkins and women’s basketball coach Kathy McConnell-Miller.

The contract extension, retroactive to July 1, runs though June 30, 2016.
