Denver International Airport has revised its passenger- traffic numbers down slightly for 2010 and up slightly for the first quarter of this year.
After adjustments announced Wednesday, the number of travelers passing through DIA last year was 51,985,038 — which airport officials said still was a record-breaking year. Previously, the 2010 total was put at 52,209,377.
The upward trend has continued. For the first six months of this year, there were 25,621,310 passengers — an increase of 641,479, or 2.6 percent, over the first six months of 2010.
“Even though fares are generally up around the industry, Denver remains a very competitive market, which is great for the consumer and great for our business here at the airport,” DIA Aviation Manager Kim Day said in a statement. “Based on what we’ve seen thus far, it looks like we are on track for another record-breaking year.”
The revisions were caused by a reporting error by Frontier Airlines and its parent company, Republic Airways. Airline spokesman Peter Kowalchuk blamed a glitch in revenue-reporting software that has been corrected.
For June, 4,863,158 passengers were recorded at DIA, up 1.5 percent from 4,790,182 in June 2010. April’s total was 4,122,932, up 45,099, or 1.1 percent; and May’s total was 4,536,566, up 165,674, or 3.8 percent.
