El Paso County investigators are looking for a 28 year man they say kidnapped his girlfriend at gunpoint and threatened to kill her this morning.

Dispatchers received a 911 call at about 6:15 a.m. reporting a shooting near Marksheffel Road and Constitution Avenue, northeast of Peterson Air Force Base.

Deputies found a 21-year-old Colorado Springs woman who told them she had met her boyfriend, Corey Handy, 28, near Barnes Road and Powers Boulevard earlier in the morning. They began to argue and Handy forced her into her vehicle at gunpoint and drove out of the area.

During the drive, deputies say, he threatened to kill her.

As the vehicle was traveled east on Constitution Avenue approaching Marksheffel, the woman jumped out and ran across the road.

She flagged down a 40-year-old Colorado Springs woman, who allowed the woman to get into her car. The suspect saw her get in the car and began to follow them west on Constitution. Investigators say Handy drove up beside the car and fired five shots from an unknown caliber handgun.

All five shots struck the drivers side of the car. In addition to the victim and the driver, there were two children, ages five and eight, in the car. None of the the occupants was injured.

Handy then drove away and another vehicle stopped to help. That citizen drove all four people to a church near Canada Drive and Constitution and called 911.
