DES MOINES, Iowa — At the Iowa State Fair on Thursday, GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney was outlining options for reining in the deficit when about a dozen hecklers started shouting that corporations should be taxed. Clearly irritated, Romney replied: “Corporations are people, my friend.”

His critics were not buying it and shouted back that the money goes in corporate pockets.

“Whose pockets? People’s pockets? Human beings, my friend,” said Romney, a wealthy businessman who has struggled with an elitist image.
