The Denver Outlaws clinched the No. 2 seed in the Major League Lacrosse playoffs Saturday with a 15-9 victory over the Chesapeake Bayhawks in Annapolis, Md., and thereby will avoid playing the No. 1 seed, the Boston Cannons, in the postseason semifinals.

Brendan Mundorf’s five goals and three assists powered the Outlaws (7-5), who had a 12-1 lead over the Bayhawks at halftime. Billy Bitter, Drew Westervelt and Peet Poillon contributed two goals each for the Outlaws, who finished the regular season with a winning record for the sixth time in their six-year history.

Millar, Phinney in Eneco’s top four.

Taylor Phinney of Boulder was 25 seconds off the lead heading into today’s final stage of the Eneco Tour of Benelux after a 10th-place finish Saturday in the fifth stage.

Phinney was fourth overall, 25 seconds behind Edvald Boasson Hagen of Norway and seven seconds behind third-place David Millar of the Boulder-based Garmin-Cervelo cycling team.

• Colombia’s Javier Acevedo won the fourth stage of the Tour of Utah in hot conditions in Salt Lake City and defending champion Levi Leipheimer retained the overall lead with one day left in the race.

Leipheimer, from Butte, Mont., had a 23-second lead over Colombia’s Sergio Henao in the overall standings. Garmin-Cervelo’s Christian Vande Velde was fifth overall, 1:18 behind Leipheimer.
