AURORA, Colo.—Police say a Colorado Department of Corrections employee told them he was drinking and taking painkillers hours before a car crash involving a family of three in Aurora.

Aurora police spokesman Lt. Chuck DeShazer says 38-year-old Jason Ulrich could be charged with vehicular assault if alcohol or drugs are found in his system.

Injured in the crash Saturday morning were 36-year-old Jonathan Price, his 32-year-old wife, Diane, and their 2-year-old daughter. Jonathan Price remained hospitalized but was expected to survive.

DeShazer told The Denver Post ( ) that witnesses told police they saw Ulrich weaving before the crash and investigators believe he was driving 30 miles over the speed limit at the time of the accident.
