A man led a Colorado State Patrol trooper on a 100 mph chase Sunday afternoon after he allegedly committed a hit-and-run.

Troopers received a call midafternoon saying that two cars collided on northbound Interstate 25 near Colorado Springs. Both drivers pulled over, and then one fled.

A witness called for help and watched the fleeing vehicle, updating troopers, Sgt. Mike Baker said.

A trooper pulled the car over near Castle Rock. When the trooper got out of his car, the driver sped away and the chase began, Baker said.

The driver raced along at about 90 mph before taking the Orchard Road exit and then accelerating to about 100 mph, Baker said.

The trooper tried to stop the chase using a TVI maneuver, in which a trooper taps the fleeing vehicle.

The trooper’s maneuver succeeded after three attempts, and the driver spun onto a raised median, ending the chase.

Baker said the driver, whose name has not yet been released, will likely face charges of eluding and reckless driving for the high-speed chase.

For the initial hit-and-run, he will likely face charges of careless driving, failure to remain at the scene after a property damage crash and failure to notify the police after a crash, Baker said.
