A Broomfield man reported missing after his vehicle was found near Vail Mountain had fled to Pennsylvania to avoid arrest for failing to register as a sex offender, authorities said Tuesday evening.
Justyn Lamarine, 37, was last seen in Fairplay on Aug. 8, when he told his family that he was going to run errands in Denver. His Ford Expedition was found 5 miles up Mill Creek, behind Vail Mountain, on Aug. 11.
The Eagle County Sheriff’s Office and Vail Mountain Rescue announced earlier Tuesday that they were searching Vail Mountain for any trace of Lamarine.
A few hours later, the Sheriff’s Office said Lamarine had faked his disappearance by leaving his SUV on Vail Mountain and riding a bike to the Greyhound bus station. He then took a bus to Aaronsburg, Pa.
