There’s a name in BOCUMAST, it’s Tommy Metz

Resident man about town  is half of the Denver record label . He seems to have his hands in almost everything right now. Bocumast is hosting the Music festival compilation that you can download that includes a bevy of unreleased material from artists performing at the fest August 26 (buy your tickets , it’s presented in part by my own blog, ) and make sure to listen to the track, it’s a straight up banger. He will also be guest DJ’ing at Reverb’s Steal This Track party at August 25. I spoke with Tommy recently about all things local:

I caught your Westword Showcase set and came away amazed with how well the live show was translated. Any thoughts to adding any other musicians to a live Ieungliss show?

“I have toyed with the idea of adding more musicians, but Iuengliss has been a solo project since I was 13 and I’ve just always kind of preferred it that way. I have collaborated a bunch with people in the past on other projects. I have a side project called Yawn Tron with drummer Shane Zweygardt from Wire Faces which is really fun. You can download our latest album at yawntron.com.”

You’ve done tons of remixes as Ieungliss, what type of production plans are in your future and any artists that you’re currently working with that you can talk about?

“I will be starting a new remix for Orbit Service pretty soon. His new album is coming out and it sounds amazing. Other than that, I’m just remixing random shit for fun. Just finished a Wu-Tang remix and a J-Dilla remix. Did a Beach Boys remix. Not sure what I’ll do next. Just having fun with it.”

What can fans expect from Bocumast before the end of the year?

“Bocumast has some things coming down the line but I can’t really mention much. We will be focusing on releasing Hunter Dragon’s trilogy as a single package once he finishes the third installment. Hopefully a new Port Au Prince record but it’s way too early to say when on that. That will be great though when it comes. And a new Yawn Tron ep is wrapped up.”

Talk to us about remastering your album from “The Blossom Frontier” to “Frontier.”

“Yeah, I released ‘The Blossom Frontier’ in January of 2010. I was completely burned out on the record and released it before I was 100% satisfied with it. Then this summer I was listening to it and thought ‘I should just go ahead and finish those things so I’m 100% happy with it.’ So I worked on the mixes, re-did some vocals and remastered it. I also redid the artwork and title cuz I thought they worked better. Kind of weird but I’m much happier with it now! “

You know that “silver lining” on the other side of the finish line, it’s Big Head Todd and the Monsters

Colorado is no stranger to cyclists. In fact, it’s common knowledge that Colorado residents have more expensive bikes than cars. You have the “cruisers” and “the weekend cyclists with those tight @ss shirts/shorts” that litter the bike paths and streets across town. It’s a big deal that we (the wonderful state of Colorado) gets to host the USA Pro Cycling Challenge and to commemorate the stage 5 finish in Breck, Big Head Todd and the Monsters will be performing a free show at 5:30 PM on Saturday, August 27. The Fray + the Muppets

Who didn’t watch the Muppets when they were growing up? I feel for today’s youth because they will never know what it was like to see Rowlf behind a piano, Fozzie with ill-timed jokes and the original diva, Miss Piggy. and a slew of artists (OKGO, MMJ and Sondre Lerche to name a few) have contributed to the Muppets “” that you can listen to over and purchase over (release date Aug 23). The album is said to accompany the forthcoming Muppets movie that’s going to be AWESOME or just miserable for trying to reboot YET another old school franchise. BTW, the Fray’s contribution get’s played in the trailer below. Does anybody remember the name of the two snide older chaps that sat in the balcony of the Muppets’ theater?

Check out Sole & the Skyrider Band’s video for “Immortality”

I’m always a little reluctant to watch illustrated videos because of the “eyeroll” factor, but this Decadence Comics artist Dave Lando collabo with video for “Immortality” is on a whole different level. Sheer beauty!
