COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—The interim fire chief for Colorado Springs has backed off a decision barring firefighters from spending their Labor Day weekend shifts raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
Rich Brown says he is worried about public perception in a tight budget year, and he wants to cut back on the time firefighters spend collecting money for the charity.
The Colorado Springs Gazette says ( ) when firefighters are not fighting fires, Brown wants them to be training and doing inspections.
Firefighters’ union spokesman Jeremy Kroto says on-duty firefighters have always been available for emergency response within their districts.
