Investigators in Jefferson County are expected to release more information tomorrow about what lead to the death of a 69-year-old Denver-area man on Mount Zion above Golden Wednesday.
The man’s name has not been released, nor has the results of an autopsy conducted this afternoon. Authorities have, so far, characterized the death as suspicious and potentially a homicide.
“We’re just at the beginning of what looks like a very long investigation,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Jacki Kelley said this evening.
The body was found Wednesday afternoon just off Lariat Loop Road near the Colorado School of Mine of Mines’ M monument above Golden, before the windy pass continues to the summit of neighboring Lookout Mountain.
Two cyclists found the man after they stopped to take a break on the steep route. They spotted the body over the guard rail, but in easy view of the roadway, Kelley said.
