A 3-year-old Wheat Ridge girl who was the subject of an Amber Alert was found safe tonight.
According to the alert, Sara Singleton was last seen at about 4:15 p.m. today, walking south from her home in the 3600 block of Upham Street. A witness said she was walking with an unknown white male.
But at about 8:45 p.m, she was found safe in her father’s apartment, according to Division Commander Joe Cassa of the Wheat Ridge police.
Cassa said the father made the original call to police reporting his daughter missing from that same apartment. Sara lives with the mom in another apartment just a block away.
Officials are sorting out what happened but say there was no abduction.
Cassa said the description of the man that was thought to have been seen with her, would not fit a description of the father. That information was reported to police from an independent witness.
Jennifer Arthur, the girl’s aunt, was the first to reunite with the girl before the parents returned from talking with investigators.
“Officers had already looked in here, but I guess they just opened a door and there she was,” Arthur said.
She said it appeared the girl may have been in the apartment the entire time.
“It’s just wonderful,” Arthur said.
The FBI, and Jefferson County Sheriff’s had joined the investigation. Bloodhounds from various departments were also assisting in the search.
