ASPEN, Colo.—Aspen officials are considering a 20-cent fee for every plastic or paper bag used by grocery store customers.
The Aspen City Council will discuss the proposed ordinance Monday. The public could get a chance to comment on the proposal on Sept. 12 before officials take a final vote.
The Aspen Times reports () that city officials have talked for years about putting a fee on paper and plastic bags to persuade shoppers to bring their own reusable bags to the grocery store. The newspaper reports that Basalt plans to introduce a similar ordinance Tuesday and that Carbondale will consider a proposal next month.
