Jason Joe Guerrero was sentenced to life in prison plus 85 years in state prison late last week for the murder of Brandon Putnam, 24, last year in Federal Heights.

Brandon Putnam, a 24-year-old roofer, died from multiple gunshot wounds inside his home on June 3, 2010.

Police said at the time that Putnam was awakened by an intruder who shot him after a confrontation at about 1:30 a.m. in the 2500 block of West 91st Drive.

Guerrero, who has a long history of arrests, was found guilty after a seven-day jury trial of murder after deliberation, kidnapping, burglary, menacing and child abuse. Children were reportedly in the home at the time of the shooting.

In June, he was charged with attempting to smuggle contraband into the Adams County Jail, and in May he was charged with assault on a peace officer while in custody and attempting to disarm a peace officer for an incident involving the jail, records show.

He has a Sept. 9 hearing on the case.

Guerrero has previous arrests for assault, burglary and alcohol-related charges.
