PHILADELPHIA — The Phillies placed all-star left-hander Cole Hamels on the disabled list Tuesday and recalled infielder Pete Orr from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The move is retroactive to Aug. 13 and will allow Hamels to come off the DL on Sunday so he can make his scheduled start Monday at Cincinnati. Hamels has inflammation in his left shoulder.
Diamondbacks send Johnson to Toronto
PHOENIX — The Diamondbacks traded second baseman Kelly John- son to the Blue Jays in exchange for second baseman Aaron Hill and infielder John McDonald.
Johnson, 29, has been Arizona’s starting second baseman the past two seasons, but he has been mired in a season-long funk, hitting .209 with 132 strikeouts and 18 homers. Hill, an all-star in 2009, is hitting .225 with six homers and 45 RBIs in 104 games.
The Diamondbacks also placed right-hander Jason Marquis on the 60-day DL with a fractured right fibula.
