Lance Armstrong, the seven-time Tour de France winner, has a home in Aspen and came to the race.
With Van Garderen fighting Tom Danielson and Hincapie down the mountain, the public address announcer asked Armstrong about Van Garderen’s chances.
“He’s got a love interest in this town,” Armstrong said, referring to Van Garderen’s girlfriend. “I’m sure he’s done that downhill a few times.”
