After losing dogs to suspected poison, Firestone family takes in pets of former baseball star

The Doughertys have dogs again — and from an unlikely source.

Last week, the Firestone family found its two dogs dead in the backyard, possibly from poison. Now Tesla and Travis Dougherty have two new lodgers: a pair of chocolate Labradors that once belonged to Jeff Seale, a former Fairview High baseball star who died at age 40 in July in his Erie home.

Seale’s sister, Stephanie Baum of Longmont, said she hadn’t been sure where to place the dogs. Since her brother’s death, 8-year-old Samson and 3-year-old Priam had been living with her uncle in Fort Collins, but the dogs couldn’t stay longer than a month.

Then she saw news coverage of the Doughertys’ dogs.
