A 13-year veteran of the Greeley Fire Department was jailed late Wednesday for allegations that he put sugar in another firefighter’s gas tank on the job.
Firefighter Kevin Adler, 38, told police on Wednesday that he put about a cup of sugar in the gas tank of a fellow firefighter earlier this month as a practical joke. But it was a move those involved believed was motivated by jealousy about a woman the victim had dated, according to police reports.
Adler, who is married with two children, was released from the Weld County Jail on Thursday after spending the night in jail. Police arrested him on suspicion of criminal mischief, a felony punishable by up to four years in prison.
Fire Chief Duane McDonald said he’s already scheduled a disciplinary hearing for Adler, with consequences that “can include anything up to and including termination.”
