INDIANAPOLIS — Graham Harrell’s big finish ruined Curtis Painter’s timely flourish.
Harrell led Green Bay to 11 points in the final 35 seconds, rallying the defending Super Bowl champion Packers to a 24-21 victory over the Colts on Friday night.
Harrell hooked up with rookie tight end Ryan Taylor for an 11-yard TD pass with 35 seconds left, then connected with Taylor again on the two-point conversion to tie it at 21. After Green Bay recovered an onside kick, Harrell quickly moved the Packers into position for Mason Crosby’s 50-yard field goal as time expired.
Just two days after the Colts’ signed Kerry Collins, presumably to replace Painter as Peyton Manning’s primary backup, the backup had his best game of the preseason. He finished 11-of-21 for 171 yards with two touchdowns, no interceptions and had the Colts (0-3) in position for their first preseason victory in nine tries since Aug. 20, 2009.
Rams 14, Chiefs 10
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Sam Bradford led St. Louis to two touchdowns, and the Rams made life miserable for Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel.
Bradford was 8-of-8 for 76 yards on his first two series, with scoring passes of 6 yards to Mike Sims-Walker and 11 yards to rookie tight end Lance Kendricks. Bradford finished with 95 yards passing in his most significant dress rehearsal before the Rams’ opener against Philadelphia.
Cassel was 6-of-13 for 59 yards and was sacked for an 11-yard loss.
Pryor joins Raiders practice
NAPA, Calif. — On his second play of his first NFL practice with the Raiders, Terrelle Pryor fumbled the snap and had to fall on the ball.
He had one more fumbled snap and a few errant passes in his 16 plays during team sessions, looking more like someone who hadn’t played football since January than a future franchise quarterback. That’s all to be expected considering he just jumped right in on his first day with the Raiders, while most everyone else has had more than four weeks of training camp.
“The problem is that now I’m 17, 18 days, practices behind right now,” Pryor said. “I’m just playing catch-up right now.”
Pryor wore No. 6 instead of the No. 2 he had in college at Ohio State. The Raiders haven’t had anyone wear No. 2 since releasing JaMarcus Russell in May 2010 after three horrible seasons in Oakland.
“Coach (Hue Jackson) won’t let me wear No. 2,” Pryor said. “Why, I don’t know. You tell me.”
