Lafayette police are investigating a stabbing in a local park that may be gang related, police said. One man has been arrested and another is being sought.

Andrew Robert Borrego, 18, of Lafayette, has been arrested as a suspect in the case. He is being held at the Boulder County Jail.

The victim was stabbed in the chest and suffered a collapsed lung, police said.

The stabbing happened Thursday afternoon in LaMont Does Park, police said in a media release.

The victim had gone to the park to play basketball with friends when an argument ensued between two others.

The two people who were arguing agreed to meet at the south end of the park and settle the argument in a fight, police said.

The victim went to watch the fight.”

Police said Borrego and another suspect named Steve pulled knives. When the victim’s friend saw the knives, he decided not to fight and tried to leave.

Steve tried to stab the man who was fleeing the fight, police said, but he was able to avoid the blade. Steve then stabbed the victim in the chest. He fled the scene and remains at large.
