GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo.—State regulators say they have reports of dangerous concentrations of hydrogen sulfide gas at Noble Energy gas drilling rigs in Garfield County.
Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission director Dave Neslin tells the Glenwood Springs Post Independent ( ) that the company reported finding dangerous levels of the gas in 2009. Neslin says there is no current danger to the public.
Noble was unable to respond immediately to calls about the agency’s findings on Thursday.
Hydrogen sulfide is a toxic gas that can cause severe respiratory distress, headaches and loss of muscle control. In high concentrations, it can cause death.
