The archbishop of the Roman Catholic archdiocese of Denver will celebrate his farewell Mass tonight in Denver. The Rev. Charles Chaput was named archbishop of Philadelphia last month and is due to be installed there Sept. 8.
The Mass will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 1530 Logan St.
Chaput has been Denver’s archbishop since 1997.
The Philadelphia archdiocese has been dealing with accusations that the church hid complaints about sexual abuse by priests for decades. In Denver, church officials from 2005 to 2008 settled dozens of lawsuits alleging sex abuse, with Chaput offering an apology to victims.
