A man was wounded Sunday night in a drive-by shooting in northeast Denver.

The incident happened about 9:15 p.m. near the intersection of East Bruce Randolph Avenue and Ash Street, said John White, a Denver Police Department spokesman.

A man was walking in the area with several other people when a car passed and words were exchanged between people in the car and the pedestrians, White said.

Someone inside the vehicle fired a gun, hitting one of the pedestrians in the torso, White said. He was taken to a local hospital.

Details on the victim’s injuries were not available.

Police described the car as a compact, four-door sedan.

The suspects remain at large.
