$8.98 per six-pack
The first beer of the fall drinking season is this old-style ale, and it’s a winner from the ever-improving Breckenridge Brewery. Imminently drinkable with perfect carbonation and light-to-medium body, it’s a dark-brown, almost opaque pour with a light-tan head. With a nose of coffee, earth and dark chocolate, it’s reminiscent of a porter. Yet in the mouth, the lighter body puts that notion to rest, roasted malt comes to the forefront, and the finish is dry with Hallertau and Perle hops balancing the maltiness for a satisfying journey. Alcohol by volume is 6.7 percent, just enough to relax without overpowering. With its masculine flavors, this would be an excellent brew to add to seasonal recipes.
Note: With this review, the beer reviews are “closed for remodeling,” in restaurant parlance — for now. It’s been an honor serving you. Drink good beer! Breckenridge Brewery, 471 Kalamath St.; . Marcus Chamberland; mchamberland@denverpost.com
