Drunken driver who killed two at north Denver intersection to be sentenced in October

A Norfolk, Va., man who killed two women when he ran a red light in north Denver will be sentenced Oct. 21 on two counts of vehicular homicide involving drunken driving.

A Denver jury found Carl Cumby, 36 guilty on the charges,as well as vehicular homicide involving reckless driving, records show.

Cumby was speeding north on Lowell Boulevard when he ran the light at West 44th Avenue and his pickup collided with a car driven by 28-year-old Elena Callas, last October.

Callas and Cumby’s passenger, Amanda Jones, 28, of Pensacola, Fla., died at the scene.
