The Colorado Department of Transportation is changing the speed limit south of the town of Winter Park.

In response to Grand County commissioners’ request for a speed study on U.S. Highway 40 on the west side of Berthoud Pass, CDOT responded by letter dated July 25 that “a study has already been completed based on a previous request.”

Signs will be installed changing the 40 mph speed on U.S. 40 to 45 mph., from milepost 236.45 to 39.30 in the eastbound direction, and from milepost 236.40 to mile post 239.30 in the westbound direction.

The upper portion of Berthoud Pass will remain at 40 mph, and the 55 mph section from the bottom of the pass to the town will not change at this time.
