An Aurora Police administrative commander who oversaw the city’s Metro Gang Task Force has been reassigned because of “performance and leadership” issues.
In a press release this afternoon, the city did not name the commander. But Channel 7, which first reported the story, said it was Lt. Paul Swanson.
A complaint against the lieutenant did not involve criminal misconduct, police spokesman Bob Friel said in an e-mail.
“Based on this preliminary information, the chief ordered a change in leadership at the task force by removing and replacing the administrative commander,” the statement said.
Police Chief Dan Oates has ordered an internal investigation to review whether any department policies were violated.
Channel 7 said the move was over Swanson’s work habits and that a GPS device had been placed on his work vehicle. He was reassigned this week.
