A man driving a sedan on a service road in Wheat Ridge was killed tonight when he plowed through a fence and broadsided a sport-utility vehicle on Interstate 70.
The SUV driver was critically injured, “and it looks pretty bad,” said Wheat Ridge police spokesperson Lisa Stigall.
No names have been released. There were no passengers in either vehicle.
Eastbound lanes of I-70 between Kipling Street and Ward Road could be closed for up to four hours while authorities investigate the crash near the Ward Road exit. The crash happened just before 8 p.m.
Stigall said there is no indication of what made the man veer onto the interstate “at just about the only stretch in that road where the fence isn’t a brick wall,” she said.
