RIFLE, Colo.—Classes are canceled at an elementary school in Rifle after a suspicious odor sent 22 students and a teacher to the hospital.
Garfield County school district spokeswoman Theresa Hamilton said investigators don’t know the cause for the odor Thursday at Graham Mesa Elementary. She said it doesn’t appear to be natural gas or carbon monoxide. Food poisoning doesn’t appear to be the reason for the illnesses, either.
Students and staff who were not hospitalized finished the day at another school.
