The driver who was killed when he plowed through a fence and into a sports-utility vehicle on Interstate 70 was identified today.
Philip J. Allen, 31 of Wheat Ridge, was killed after his sedan smashed into an SUV traveling on I-70, according to a news release from the Wheat Ridge Police Department.
Allen was driving westbound on the south I-70 service road, when his car left the roadway, drove through the right highway shoulder and crashed into a light pole.
The car then continued through a fence before entering eastbound I-70 where he broadsided a Honda SUV, police said.
Allen was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 31-year-old female driver of the SUV was taken to St. Anthony’s Central Hospital. Her name and condition have not been released.
Details about what cause Allen to veer onto the interstate have not been released.
