NEW YORK — Alex Rodriguez and Mark Teixeira were out of the Yankees’ lineup for their game against the Blue Jays on Friday night because of injuries.

Rodriguez missed his sixth straight game with a sprained left thumb. He said he had a good pregame workout but the team is taking a conservative approach. He could return this weekend.

Teixeira was hit on the side of his right knee by a pitch in the sixth inning of Thursday’s game at Boston. He left an inning later when the knee stiffened up.

Manager Joe Girardi said Teixeira could return by Sunday.

Posey on the mend

SAN FRANCISCO — Giants catcher Buster Posey no longer needs a scooter, crutch or walking boot to make his way around AT&T Park and considers himself on target to return from a devastating leg injury by the start of spring training next year.

“I’m walking around in a tennis shoe, feeling good. I think we’re right on track,” Posey said. “Keep going. Be ready to go hopefully next spring.”

Posey is gaining strength in his leg every day and is set to begin catching bullpens and hitting next month at instructional league in Arizona.
