The first wave of hot-air balloons lifted off shortly before 7 a.m. Monday at Memorial Park as the Colorado Balloon Classic wrapped up its 35th year.
Dozens of colorful balloons rose from the park near downtown Colorado Springs, prompting cheers from bystanders and the clicks of hundreds, if not thousands, of cameras and cellphones.
About 60 balloons participated this year.
Monday’s launch made two in a row after Sunday’s successful lift-off. A disappointing Saturday brought high winds at dawn, grounding the balloons.
