Colorado Springs City Councilman Tim Leigh wants to turn the boarded-up beach house at Prospect Lake into a slice of sandy paradise.

Leigh, a commercial real estate broker, is trying to work out a deal to re-open the city-owned Eni R. Jaspersen Beach House, possibly as a restaurant. The city closed the beach house, as well as the man-made beach at Prospect Lake in Memorial Park near downtown, because of budget cuts a year or two ago.

Leigh, who recently advertised the beach house for lease in a special edition of his electronic newsletter, asked potential partners to imagine the possibilities.

“How cool would it be to tell someone, ‘I’ll meet you on the dock for coffee or wine or beer or breakfast or lunch or dinner?’ How cool would it be to take a sunbath and a swim and have a burger and a beer? Ever thought about Cancun in Colorado?” he wrote. “Pretty darn nice, I’d say, and I’m a beach lizard!”
