TORONTO — Red Sox right-hander Josh Beckett left in the fourth inning of Monday’s game against the Blue Jays with a sprained right ankle.

“It’s always concerning,” Beckett said. “That’s my power leg.”

Beckett said he slipped and fell while warming up in the bullpen, but didn’t think that had anything to do with the pain that forced him out.

“I felt it on the second-to-last pitch and then it felt a little bit different on the last pitch I threw,” Beckett said. “I didn’t feel it till those last two pitches.

“It felt like it was locked up and then it popped in and out of the socket or something.”

Beckett was able to stand and walk after the game, but said his ankle was still sore.

“It’s bad timing, but who knows?,” he said. “I could be back out there in six days. We’ll see.”

• Red Sox reliever Bobby Jenks is likely to miss the rest of the season and playoffs due to lingering pain in his back.

Johnson throws off mound

MIAMI — Marlins right-hander Josh Johnson threw off a mound for the first time in more than two months.

Johnson, on the disabled list since May 21 with right shoulder inflammation, previously threw off a mound in late June. He threw 21 fastballs. The plans were for him to throw again Wednesday and Saturday.

“Today was just get out there, and get full extension,” he said. “I have no doubt I’ll be ready for next season.”

If all goes well, Johnson said he could pitch in a simulated game before the season ends.

• Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez will undergo a CT scan to determine the type of surgery he’ll face to repair his left shoulder. The shoulder has popped out of its socket several times, the most recent being last Tuesday night in a rehab game with Single-A Jupiter. No surgery date had been set, but Ramirez said he expected it to be in the next couple of weeks.

Footnotes.

The Indians activated three-time all-star outfielder Grady Sizemore (abdomen) from the disabled list, and manager Manny Acta said he hopes second baseman Jason Kipnis, out since Aug. 14 with a strained hamstring, could be activated this week, but third baseman Jack Hannahan will be out “a minimum of five to seven days.”

• The Blue Jays activated right-hander Dustin McGowan (shoulder) off the 60-day DL and manager John Farrell rejoined the team after missing 10 games because of pneumonia.

• Mets first baseman Ike Davis took part in pregame drills as he and the team try to determine if surgery will be required to repair his left ankle.
