TULSA, Okla. — The Tulsa Drillers drew fewer fans to the ballpark in 2011 than the year before, a decline that the franchise blames on the extreme heat this summer.

The Drillers wrapped up their season on Sunday on a cool and sunny afternoon that attracted plenty of fans to the ballpark.

Drillers General Manager Mike Melega tells Tulsa television station KJRH that the team drew 365,000 fans this summer, down from 400,000 a year ago.

Melega says the heat in July and August drew down attendance. But 2011 still had the second largest attendance in the franchise’s history.

The Drillers play in the Class AA Texas League.
