Consumer spending has dropped off a cliff nationally, and unemployment soars as fears of a new recession rise.

But a pair of financial reports delivered to Loveland city councilors on Tuesday paint a much different, and brighter, picture for the city.

On both sides of the ledger, Loveland’s finances are in better shape even than budget planners had projected for 2011.

General fund revenue, with sales tax the biggest component, stood at $40.6 million at the end of July, or 4.5 percent higher than planned for.
