Crews in Douglas County rescued two emaciated dogs in Pike National Forest on Monday.
At 1 p.m., crews were called to Skeleton Trail off of Rampart Range Road, when a pair of dirt bike riders spotted two starving dogs on the trail, according to a news release from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Crews found the dogs at about 2:30 p.m., and used ATVs to carry the dogs out of the woods and to waiting Animal Welfare officials.
The dogs were taken to a veterinarian in Castle Rock and are expected to make a full recovery.
Details about why the dogs were on the trail and how long they had been there, were not available.
