NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenyan teachers say they are ending a week-long strike that has affected 10 million children.

More than 200,000 Kenyan teachers were protesting over overcrowded classes.

It was discovered last week that the government was diverting $53 million earmarked for hiring extra teachers and making temporary staff permanent to the defense ministry instead.

Now the government says it will make all 18,000 temporary teachers permanent and hire 5,000 extra teachers in January.
