A 20-year-old man and a teenager have been arrested as suspects in armed holdups in which the robbers wore Halloween masks and hoods.

The two suspects and a third man were arrested Thursday after an alert citizen recognized a stolen SUV — a Hyundai Sante Fe — that was used in a credit union robbery on Wednesday, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said in a media release.

The pair are also suspects in an armed robbery of a Big R store in Security on Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said.

Stephen Williams, 20, is being held at the El Paso County Jail on suspicion of aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and aggravated motor vehicle theft. His bond has been set a $500,000.

The second suspect in the two robberies is a 16-year-old male who was not identified because of his age. The teen, who is being held at the Spring Creek Detention Facility, faces the same possible charges as Williams. His bond was set at $10,000.

About 15 minutes after the citizen reported the Hyundai, a Colorado Springs officer spotted the SUV and stopped it. In the vehicle were the two suspects, a man and a woman. All four were detained and questioned.

Marqual Sawyer, 18, the third male in the Hyundai, was arrested on suspicion of burglary, giving false information to a pawn broker, criminal mischief and theft, the sheriff’s office said.

He was held at the El Paso County Jail on a $10,000 bond.

The woman in the SUV was not arrested.

The investigation is ongoing.
