FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.—Cary Grossart threw for 271 yards and three touchdowns as Northern Arizona barreled past Fort Lewis 58-13 on Saturday.

The Lumberjacks (1-1) scored on their first two possessions to break the game open against the Skyhawks (1-1), who limited the damage by recovering three first-half fumbles.

Grossart completed 16 of 21 before the second-team offense came in late in the third quarter. He connected with Ify Umodu for 149 yards and two touchdowns.

The Lumberjacks’ Giovannie Dixon ran for 136 yards and two touchdowns, including an 82-yard score in the third quarter.

Zach Bauman added 86 yards and a TD. Jamaal Perkins added a first-quarter kickoff return 99 yards for a score.

In all, the Lumberjacks, who debuted the $26-million renovated Walkup Skydome, had 31 carries for 256 yards while the defense held Fort Lewis to 244 yards.

Division II Fort Lewis scored its only touchdown with a 1-yard run by quarterback Tim Jenkins on the first play of the second quarter.

The Skyhawks’ Ryan Baldwin kicked field goals of 31 and 33 yards.

Blaise Cuban led the Skyhawks with four catches for 58 yards while the Lumberjacks held Fort Lewis to 33 rushing yards in 29 attempts.
