Pitkin County crews are planning an attempt Wednesday morning to recover the body of a Dillon man who was killed in a fall of more than 200 feet Saturday.
David Morano, 41, fell near Pyramid Peak about 2 miles east of the Maroon Bells, the Sheriff’s Department said this afternoon.
An investigation into the fall is under way. Marano was climbing with a companion, who hiked out to call for help.
Mountain Rescue Aspen will attempt the recovery using a helicopter and longer ropes than normally used in such operations, because of the steep, rugged terrain, according to the Sheriff’s Department.
Pyramid Peak is 14,018 feet in elevation and is popular with climbers for its “relentlessly steep” ascent despite is notorious exposure to the elements and loose rock, according to climbing guides.
