Boulder County fire crews on the ground and in the air made progress fighting a wildfire northwest of Boulder this afternoon, and the U.S. Forest Service expects containment on the Blue Jay fire tonight.
No homes are threatened by the blaze, and no evacuations warnings were issued.
The 6-acre fire is burning near the Blue Jay Mine, southeast of Jamestown, between Nugget Hill and Walker Mountain. The fire is on National Forest land about 5 miles northwest of Boulder.
A helicopter that had been used to drop water, and a single-engine air tanker dropping retardant were discontinued.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, the U.S. Forest Service said.
Earlier this afternoon, when the fire was estimated at about 3 acres, the Boulder Daily Camera reported that the wildfire had 20- to 30-foot flames.
