Lawyers on Monday continued to negotiate the terms for the divorce of architect Santiago Calatrava from Denver International Airport.

Calatrava produced initial designs for the South Terminal project, which is to include a commuter-rail station and a hotel. But last week, the Spanish architect withdrew, citing concerns about the schedule and reduced budget and conflict with the project manager Parsons Transportation.

Through Parsons, DIA has paid Calatrava about $12.9 million for design work. The settlement talks are aimed at determining which Calatrava designs and “concepts” are usable by DIA. Terms of the document defining his work on the project say he retains ownership of the concepts and “copyright and intellectual property rights” embodied in his designs.
