A 19-year-old woman has been arrested for shooting her father in the neck with a pistol.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office was called at about 4 a.m., to a home on the 500 block of Iris Drive, by a woman who reported that “her father was just accidentally shot,” according to a sheriff’s media release.
When deputies arrived they found 47-year-old Gary Vorhis suffering from a “single gunshot wound to his neck.”
Investigators believe 19-year-old Breehanna Vorhis, the victim’s daughter, “pointed the weapon at him and pulled the trigger” not knowing that it was loaded.
Vorhis is in Memorial Hospital in stable condition, the sheriff’s office said.
Only one shot was fired.
Breehanna was arrested on suspicion of second degree assault and possession of a weapon by a previous offender, the sheriff’s office said.
Anthony Edwards, 22, who was at the home, was also arrested. Edwards is suspected of accessory to second degree assault and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.
