Denver’s search for a new police chief has yielded 61 resumes, Amber Miller, spokeswoman for Mayor Michael Hancock, said Wednesday.

Hancock hopes to select from among them to replace longtime chief Gerald Whitman by late next month or early November. The Washington, D.C.-based Police Executive Research Forum is conducting a national search, at a cost of $39,500, up from the $36,000 originally projected. The final figure includes the cost of subcontractors for background checks and other administrative costs, Miller said.

The cost will be covered through privately raised funds.
